Sarah George is a PhD student and contract instructor in the Department of Sociology at Carleton University. She teaches a third-year sociology course about race, gender, and class. Her areas of interest are African studies, Black studies, and sociology of race, gender, and knowledge. Her thesis examined Black consciousness, anti-Blackness, activist leadership, and the formation of Pan-African political solidarity amongst African, Caribbean, and Black people in Ottawa. She is the former President of the Institute of African Studies’ Graduate Student Association and is currently serving as a founding team member of the Umoja Black Community Engagement Program. Sarah also facilitates Somerset West Community Health Centre’s anti-racism initiative, Equity4Us.
