April is Black Maternal Health and Reproductive Justice Month

Canadian Women of Colour Leadership Network is recognizing April as Black Maternal Health and Reproductive Justice Month. Throughout the entire month, we have an exciting lineup of activities, webinars, and programs dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the challenges faced by Black mothers and individuals in accessing adequate maternal & reproductive healthcare.

April is designated as Black Maternal Health and Reproductive Justice Month to shine a spotlight on the barriers and disparities that exist within Canada’s healthcare system. These challenges range from the lack of comprehensive data collection on health risks to instances of medical racism and the absence of tailored support for Black communities experiencing reproductive difficulties.

By proclaiming April as Black Maternal Health and Reproductive Justice Month, we take a significant step forward in addressing systemic inequity within our healthcare system. Advocacy efforts at all levels of government are essential to improve pregnancy and postpartum outcomes for Black individuals. We invite you to join us in leading by example and advocating for change on this crucial issue.

Throughout April, let’s come together as a community to raise awareness, educate ourselves, and take action to ensure that every Black mother and individual receives the quality maternal and reproductive healthcare they deserve.
