On October 30th, 2024 The Ottawa Black Mental Health Coalition (OBMHC) held its Strategic Planning Day: Strengthening Our Collective Impact – A Day of Connection and Alignment, welcoming over 70 participants, including member agencies and collaborators. This gathering served as a platform to refine shared goals, develop actionable strategies, and strengthen partnerships to advance equitable mental health outcomes for Ottawa’s Black communities. Facilitated by Manal Sayid and her consulting firm, Sayid Consulting Inc., the event emphasized the power of OBMHC’s diverse membership, which brings together grassroots leaders, health sector advocates, and community changemakers. This diversity fuels a collective mission to create systemic change, improve access to mental health services, and dismantle stigma for Black residents across the city.

The day began with inspiring remarks from OBMHC board member Jacklyn St Laurent and Suzanne Obiorah, Executive Director at Somerset West Community Health Centre. CWCLN CEO and Founder Sophia Jacob delivered a heartfelt land acknowledgment, grounding the gathering in reflection and purpose.A highlight of the day was the recognition of key contributors to the coalition’s success. CWCLN was honored with a certificate of appreciation for outstanding collaboration and partnership in supporting Black mental health.
