CWCLN’s Conversation Circle: A Lifeline for Black and Racialized Women, Then and Now

Canadian Women of Colour Leadership Network (CWCLN) has always been at the forefront of championing connection, empowerment, and addressing the unique challenges faced by Black and racialized women. In August 2020, during the isolation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, CWCLN introduced its first Conversation Circle—a safe, virtual gathering where women could come together to share, uplift, and support one another.

These monthly meetings quickly became an essential space for women across Ottawa, Canada, and internationally. Participants connected through meaningful discussions on a wide range of topics, including mental health, fitness, education, business, culture, and more. Each session served as a sanctuary for women to explore their lived experiences, validate their voices, and build collective resilience.

Every Conversation Circle was carefully designed to nurture personal growth, encourage community support, and create bonds that transcended distance. Women came together to uplift one another, break barriers, and forge networks of care, understanding, and empowerment.

As CWCLN continues to expand its mission, the essence of the Conversation Circle remains an integral part of our work. It has seamlessly integrated into other CWCLN programs that address the pressing issues Black and racialized women face today. Known as a leading organization for creating safe spaces, CWCLN is dedicated to fostering empowerment, celebrating achievements, and driving systemic change.

Call to Action: Supporting the Future of Our Programs

As CWCLN continues to provide essential resources and support to Black and racialized women, we are working to ensure that these life-changing services remain accessible for years to come. To protect and sustain these initiatives, CWCLN has launched an advocacy campaign to gather 2,500 signatures for a petition that will help preserve the services women rely on.

CWCLN is committed to addressing critical issues impacting Black and racialized women across Canada. Some of the pressing challenges we’re working to overcome include:

Barriers to healthcare and wellness resources: Too many women face difficulties accessing the necessary physical and mental health support to thrive.

The hardships refugee women face during resettlement: Women new to Canada often experience overwhelming challenges in navigating a complex system.

The need for specialized services for survivors of gender-based violence: Tailored support is essential for healing and rebuilding their lives.

The lack of mental health resources for marginalized communities: Existing services often fail to meet the unique needs of Black and racialized women.

By signing the petition and supporting CWCLN’s advocacy efforts, you help ensure that these services remain accessible to those who need them most. Your involvement can make a real difference in securing a brighter future for women in our community. SIGN HERE
