SBCCI Driving Change For Community Transformation Community Service Conference

On September 12th & 13th, 2024 Canadian Women of Color Leadership Network (CWCLN) had the distinct privilege of attending the prestigious Strategic Black Canadian Community Initiatives (SBCCI) Conference, a transformative gathering dedicated to fostering growth, innovation, and sustainability within Black-led non-profit organizations. This conference provided an invaluable platform for learning, collaboration, and the exchange of strategies that will enable Black non-profits to not only thrive in Canada’s competitive landscape but to also further cement their role as pivotal agents of change in communities across the country.

Through dynamic sessions and impactful workshops, CWCLN representatives had the chance to deepen their understanding of the various sectors and operational strategies that can strengthen the effectiveness and sustainability of Black-led non-profits in the years ahead. The insights gained during the conference were instrumental in identifying new opportunities for capacity building, strategic partnerships, and resource optimization, all aimed at ensuring the long-term success of organizations dedicated to supporting Black and marginalized communities.

Reequal Smith, Administrative Assistant, and Kimberley John, Grant Writer and Communications Strategist had the opportunity to engage with numerous trailblazing Black organizations from across Canada, many of which have been at the forefront of driving positive social change. The networking opportunities at SBCCI were invaluable, as they allowed for the exchange of best practices, innovative ideas, and the development of meaningful relationships with key stakeholders in the non-profit sector.

Their participation underscored CWCLN’s commitment to staying informed and proactive in seeking ways to enhance its impact within the broader non-profit ecosystem. As they look to the future, Reequal and Kimberley, along with the entire CWCLN team, are excited to implement the knowledge gained at the conference to advance the organization’s mission of supporting marginalized communities, especially Black women and femmes, ensuring that they have the resources and opportunities needed to thrive in today’s evolving landscape.

This experience has not only reinforced CWCLN’s dedication to its core values but has also provided a renewed sense of purpose and direction as the organization continues to explore new avenues to empower and uplift the communities it serves.

CWCLN  would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tropicana Community Services for graciously hosting this incredible event, which continues to create invaluable opportunities for Black organizations across Canada to connect, grow, and thrive.
